Transform SkyPrep LMS Reporting with Power BI: Insights Through Better Visualisation

Empowering eLearning with SkyPrep LMS API: Content Tree’s Journey in Integration and Reporting Automation

Hi Ben! Great to chat with you again. In our first blog, you mentioned that the SkyPrep LMS API allows integration with external platforms like Power BI. I’m intrigued to know how this integration helps with data visualisations in Power BI.

Right, right… The integration allows Power BI to automatically pull real-time training data straight from the Skyprep LMS, so L&D teams no longer need to manually upload CSVs or Excel files to Power BI.

With this automated data flow, it becomes much easier to analyse information and create meaningful reporting visualisations. Plus, the visuals stay accurate and always up to date.

What kinds of reports can L&D teams generate and visualise in Power BI using data pulled from the SkyPrep LMS?

Good question. They can build reports at various levels—like the Course Level, Component Level, and Learner Level—using data pulled directly from the Skyprep LMS, such as the All Modules Report, All Users Report, and Survey Report.

Normally, when L&D teams generate reports directly from SkyPrep LMS, they receive each report separately in Excel or CSV format. But with the API, all this data is consolidated and the relationships between the datasets are established in Power BI, allowing them to make better analysis and create richer reporting visualisations. I would say this is Content Tree’s expertise. [Giggles – Ben’s proud moment]

Can you show our readers what the reporting visualisations look like at the Course Level?

Can… Here’s an example of the kind of Course Level reporting you can achieve in Power BI. L&D teams can obtain the status of each course that learners are enrolled in. They can see how many learners have passed, how many are still in progress, and how many have not started a particular course. They can also identify which learners fall into each status category, along with details like their location or subsidiary. This helps L&D quickly spot areas that may need extra support or follow-up.

Interesting! What about Component Level data visualisations? What kind of information do they show?

Ok, for the Component Level, L&D teams can get more detailed information about a course, including the average time learners spend to complete it, the overall course rating, the SCORM completion status, and the number of learners who have completed the survey.

They can simply drill through from the Course Status visual to view the Component Level report in Power BI.

Since learners’ feedback is essential for L&D teams to evaluate the quality of their training, the API also enable them to view survey responses in a clear, tabular format in Power BI. They can just drill through from the Survey Status to see the responses.

This allows L&D teams to easily review learners’ comments and ratings of a particular course and identify learner sentiment, areas for improvements, and measure the overall quality of each course.

Now, at the Learner Level, what type of report can be built?

With learners’ data coming in through the SkyPrep API, L&D teams have access to plenty of useful information. For example, if a company has employees in various locations, they can map their learners by location and easily track each person’s progress in that area. This helps them manage their reporting more effectively.

From there, they can visualise each learner’s performance in a clean, tabular format—showing whether they have Passed, are In Progress, or have Not Started the courses they’re enrolled in. They can also add visuals alongside the table to get a clearer snapshot of how many courses each learner has passed, is still working on, or hasn’t started yet

We’ve come to the end of today’s interview session. Everything you’ve shared so far has been really helpful for reporting visualisations. Now… can you spill the tea on the next project you’re working on?

Ya, can! In our next blog, readers can look forward to learning how they can easily analyse and visualise the SCORM report from SkyPrep LMS in Power BI.
